Sonshine School

Purpose/Cause/Passion: We provide excellent ASL interpreters who love Jesus for events, music, and media that equip Deaf people for life and ministry.

Our Niche: Developing Jesus-loving interpreters to provide access for Deaf communities within Christian events, music, and media.

Interpreting musical worship can be one of the most rewarding parts of an Interpreter's experiences! Allow your personal song of worship to shine through your interpreting work as you gain confidence in conceptual musical interpreting. We will work together to prepare conceptually-rich interpretations of one worship song of your choice, as well as to stock your "tool belt" with strategies to improve "on-the-spot" musical interpreting.

Unintended Bias of a Good Interpreter

Workshop

January 31, 10am- 1pm CT

.3 CEUs PPO

$65

We all strive to be ethical and accurate interpreters, but what if we carry biases we don’t intend or aren’t aware of? Inspired by Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People, this workshop explores how implicit bias is formed, how it functions in the brain, and how it can surface in interpreting decisions. We will examine the impact of bias on interpretation and learn practical, research-based strategies to recognize and mitigate unintended bias in our work.
