So this is your first Sonshine event… We are so glad you’re on our team!
Before you throw your hands in the air, and wave them like you just don’t care, we invite you to understand why we care. Of course, equal access for the Deaf is important, but at Sonshine Interpreting it’s so much deeper than that. We provide ASL access to events that equip Deaf people for life and ministry.
The following five core values are foundational to the success in fulfillment of our statement of faith, which is the Nicene Creed, allowing us to serve the diverse spectrum of denominations. [Need a refresher? You can read about it here!]
Prayer. This is an integral part of what we do! You can expect to be prayed for and with before, during and after events.
Deaf Influence. When making decisions, we rely heavily on the Deaf members of our team or Deaf leaders in attendance. When possible, Deaf interpreters will be utilized.
Diversity/Representation. We try to reflect diversity of the stage in our interpreting teams and will strive to use a person of color for all social justice conversations involving race.
Feedback/Eval. During all interpreted segments, we encourage you to be making observations in a notebook.
Developing Interpreters. We want to see you equipped to interpret in the Christian setting, growing in your personal faith and providing access for the Deaf/HH community to grow in their faith.
Well, now you know! Thank you for being an interpreter of excellence, who loves Jesus and has a heart for ministry.
It’s time. Throw those hands in the air, and wave them like you care!
