Interpreting musical worship can be one of the most rewarding parts of an Interpreter's experiences! Allow your personal song of worship to shine through your interpreting work as you gain confidence in conceptual musical interpreting. We will work together to prepare conceptually-rich interpretations of one worship song of your choice, as well as to stock your "tool belt" with strategies to improve "on-the-spot" musical interpreting.

*Group mentoring has an option to go through Intrerpretek to be recognized as an RID independent study at no extra cost.

Sonshine Interpreting values the development of both hearing and Deaf interpreters. For all workshops, presenters will select their primary communication language (e.g., English or ASL), and Sonshine will provide interpreters to ensure full inclusion. We represent a wide range of Christian denominations, centered on the tenets of the Nicene Creed. Opinions and views shared by presenters are their own and do not necessarily represent those of Sonshine Interpreting.

Interpreting Worship Music

Virtual Workshop

Sunday, May 17, 3-5pm CT

Presenters: Mistie Suhr & Sara Arrington

.2 CEUs PS

$45

The poetry and heart of an author is written right into the music we use to worship our Creator. Yet, when we try to interpret that same music, we often fall flat. Is it our affect? Is it our lack of understanding? Is it our approach? Music is often the last thing we focus on in our prep, but perhaps it is the most important part, in order to help our deaf audiences be able to prepare their hearts to worship our Lord.

In this workshop we will help equip interpreters to express music in a clear way that supports deaf people worshiping God. We will learn strategies to approach music, both when we have time for prep, and when we don’t have time for prep. We will provide guidelines to help ensure that the music we interpret is not lost on the audience, but has them engaged in worship. We will engage you in topics such as, researching music, beats, rhymes, and assessing our own performance before we even meet our clients. Join us!

Taxes & Tithing: Faithful Giving and Smart Tax Planning

Virtual workshop

Rosemary Bocian

Saturday, June 6, 2-4pm CT

.2 CEUs GS

Discover how your generosity and your tax strategy can work together, not against each other. In this insightful webinar, we’ll explore how to honor your faith through giving while making wise, informed financial decisions.

Many people don’t realize that tithing interacts directly with the tax code. Understanding these tax rules can help you maximize both your charitable impact and your tax benefits.

In this workshop, we’ll cover:

-The difference between the standard deduction and itemizing, and when each makes sense

-What tithing is and how it fits within charitable giving from both a faith and financial perspective

-How to properly deduct charitable donations, including important updates in recent tax law

-Smart giving strategies like Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) and “bunching” donations to maximize tax benefits

Whether you’re already giving or looking to be more intentional, this webinar will equip you with the knowledge to steward your resources wisely—both spiritually and financially.

We all strive to be ethical and accurate interpreters, but what if we carry biases we don’t intend or aren’t aware of? Inspired by Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People, this workshop explores how implicit bias is formed, how it functions in the brain, and how it can surface in interpreting decisions. We will examine the impact of bias on interpretation and learn practical, research-based strategies to recognize and mitigate unintended bias in our work.
