Guide for Churches: We Have Deaf Members, Now What?

As ambassadors of Jesus, we want to reflect His love and hospitality in the way that we welcome and honor Deaf people in our churches

Build Relationships: Seek ways to support

  • Take time to get to know the Deaf individuals in your church and build connections.

  • Learn what is already happening in your local Deaf community and look for ways your church can support those efforts, such as offering your space for ASL classes or Deaf community gatherings.

Make a long-term plan: Ask for feedback regularly

  • Care for your interpreters so they can provide quality access

  • Ensure Deaf members have access to all church resources through interpreters and captioning

  • Provide leadership opportunities for Deaf members

Seek Additional Support: Build a strong support system

Thank you for desiring to make your church a more welcoming and accessible place for the Deaf community.
