Resources For Ed Terps
Hey Ya'll,
I'm Jules, I am one of Sonshine Support admins. I run socials, help coordinate the DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth) area, and a few other odds and ends. After graduating my ITP, I started my career as an Educational Interpreter and was at the school for many years, falling in love with educational work.
I know there are many Deaf Educators, Support Staff, and Ed Terps that are Sonshiners. We are praying for you as this year kicks off. We know how hard and dark the school setting can be, but you are not alone. Psalms 31:24 says, "Be strong and let your hearts take courage; All you who wait for and confidently expect the Lord." He is working in ways you may never see, but know that your presence at these schools is having eternal impact. We are so appreciative of what you do, both seen and unseen.
A charge for the Interpreters: Remember to EMPOWER the Deaf students. Tell them the agencies/coordinators/information they need to be able to request interpreters, not use certain interpreters, and/or how they can take control over their own educational journey.
A charge for those not in education: Looking at the stats for pay for Educational Interpreters, remember your voice matters and you can show up to your local school district meetings and share how the quality of pay can heavily influence the quality of interpreters that are working with these students or their ability to pay for skill development. Please remember to encourage those working in the school districts and remember they are there because they LOVE the kids and love their jobs.
We are so proud of each of you and are praying for this year to be your best year yet. Sonshiners: be praying over your Deaf teacher friends and the Educational Interpreters in your lives going back to school!
\ lm/, Jules
